While many countries are engaged in an energy transition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Senegal, with its new discoveries of oil and gas, is about to join the ranks of energy resource-producing states in the world. The exploitation of these deposits could lead Senegal towards energy sovereignty; however, the environmental, social, and economic impacts on communities are not sufficiently considered. This bulletin produced by Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung in collaboration with LEGS-Africa and CRADESC addresses the energy transition, its stakes and challenges in the world and in Senegal, and opens the debate with the intervention of experts such as Demba SEYDI, Francophone West Africa Regional Coordinator of the PCQVP network, Jean-Paul Correa from Enda Energie, and Pape Cheikh Diémé from the Alliance of Actors and Professions of Energy in Senegal.
