The CRADESC and its partner The African Climate Foundation (ACF) continue to raise awareness and strengthen the capacities of non-state actors for the implementation of the Partnership for a Just Energy Transition (JETP) in Senegal. A community forum on the JETP is being held on May 22, 2025, in Saint-Louis.
The goal is to promote the social ownership of the just energy transition process by the local communities of Saint-Louis through inclusive and participatory dialogue. It also aims to enhance the participation of local actors in the governance mechanisms of the energy transition.
The meeting is held in the presence of representatives of artisanal fishermen (GIE, federations, CLPA); local peasant and agricultural organizations, women and youth active in the fishing and agriculture sectors, local authorities (municipalities, departmental councils, etc.), decentralized technical services (fishing, agriculture, environment, energy), local civil society organizations, community media, academics, local students and researchers.
Characterized by a predominance of artisanal fishing and agriculture, the Saint-Louis region is particularly concerned with the challenges inherent to the energy transition, given the vulnerability of its coastal ecosystem, the energy precarity observed in rural areas, and the potential transformations induced by transition policies such as gas exploitation and renewable energies.
