In Sub-Saharan Africa, women make up more than 64.6% of the active population. However, they have limited access to wage employment in the formal public or private sectors, which are predominantly occupied by men (ILO, 2017). Women work in the informal sector, particularly in petty trade, crafts, or private services, or as employees or family helpers. These types of jobs are characterized by absolute precariousness while the income generated remains very low.
